The Plant Genetic Resources Commission of ISHS and the Department of Horticultural Sciences of Shiraz University are pleased to announce the “International Symposium on Role of Plant Genetic Resources on Reclaiming Lands and Environment Deteriorated by Human and Natural Action” (ISPGR-IRAN 2016) which will take place on 16-20 May, 2016 in Shiraz, Iran.
In many parts of the world the survival of agricultural lands, environments and most of natural habitats for plant genetic resources is being threatened by variety of natural and human actions like climate change, urbanization, industrialization, road construction, mine extraction, fires, drought, pollution, indiscriminate use of agricultural practices, overgrazing, and replacement of local varieties and land races by new commercial cultivars.
Plant genetic resources including wild species, landraces and commercial cultivars are diverse for a wide range of morphological and physiological characters as well as resistances/tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. Protection, preservation and efficient utilization of plant genetic resources would facilitate facing these challenges. This symposium is the best place to show and discuss about the more advanced achievements in different aspects of plant genetic resources focusing on the role of plant genetic resources for reclaiming lands and environment deteriorated by human and natural actions.
